If Kyle Walker is sold by Tottenham then former club Sheffield United will receive a slice of the fee – but how much?

The transfer saga of Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker is one that already seems to have been going on for an absolute age.

However, it is one that Walker’s former club, Sheffield United, will be watching with great interest as they stand to make money themselves from any potential deal.

The Mirror are one of the latest to report on the future of the right-back, stating that leading contenders for his signature, Manchester City, are now reconsidering a move after Spurs increased their asking price to £60m.

Apparently City want to pay closer to £40m for the 27-year-old, but all of this will see pound signs spinning in the eyes of the Blades’ hierarchy.

That is because, according to the Sheffield Star, they stand to make 10 per cent of any cash Tottenham receive for Walker, as part of the agreement that saw the England international move to North London from Bramall Lane back in 2009.

Contrary to previous reports, the newspaper says that the fee United receive will be based upon the money Spurs get, and not a percentage of his pricetag. So for example, if Walker was sold as part of a swap deal, United would stand to make less than if he were just sold for a straight up transfer fee.

Either way, with the amounts being quoted for the right-back, if he is sold the Sheffield club will receive a nice cash windfall ahead of their return to the Championship.
