Jordan Walker made history by becoming the first St Louis Cardinals star, and youngest player, to win the Home Run Derby and also managed to double his salary.

The All-Star outfielder managed to hit 11 homers in 15 swings and he was the first player to homer off the “magenta ball” used for the final swings in each round.

After hitting six home runs in a row, Walker ended up winning 12-11 in the final round at Citizens Bank Ballpark, silencing Kyle Schwarber in the process.

The amount Jordan Walker will make after Home Run Derby win

As a result of winning the Home Run derby, Walker pocketed $1m from that one game.

To compare, his salary for the entire 2026 season is $799,400, meaning his prize total from one game has already more than doubled what he would usually earn.

“I can’t even describe how it means to win it,” Walker said. “It was a lot of swings, a lot of pressure, but I think I just had fun no matter what. Every round I was having a good time.”

Jordan Walker defies Phillies boos

The Philadelphia crowd were understandably hostile towards Walker as they cheered on Schwarber and Bryce Harper.

That didn’t faze Walker though, who stepped up and surprised the Phillies faithful. While he admitted it was intimidating, the 24-year-old relished the dream opportunity.

“My thought was Philly is brutal,” Walker said of the crowd. “I mean, honestly. But I think it’s pretty special because they love their players, and that’s what you want from where you play.”
