How much did Leeds pay for Gnonto? Many have been keen to know as the Italy international continues to shine at Elland Road.
The 19-year-old scored twice as Leeds recorded a 5-2 win over Cardiff in the FA Cup 3rd round replay on Wednesday evening, including a goal of the season contender inside just 60 seconds.
So, how much did Leeds pay for Gnonto? Let’s take a look…
How much Leeds paid for Gnonto
Well, Victor Orta – Director of Football at Leeds – doesn’t always get it right in the transfer market.
However, the Spaniard hit the nail on the head with Gnonto.
The teenager cost Leeds just £3.8m in a deadline day deal from FC Zurich back in September 2022.
Since then, Gnonto has scored one goal in seven Premier League appearances for Leeds, while also providing one assist.
The Italian also has two goals in two FA Cup outings, although Leeds fans love him for more than just his goals and assists.
Gnonto has breathed new life into what seemed to be an uninspired Leeds side, with his direct dribbling, tenacious work rate and positive outlook making him a firm fan favourite already in Yorkshire.
There is still a long way to go in the 2022/23 campaign, although the Leeds No.29 is definitely making a case for signing of the season.
Gnonto was No.2 option for Leeds
Remarkably, Leeds didn’t even have Gnonto down as their No.1 option – Orta wanted to sign Bamba Dieng from Marseille first.

As detailed by the Daily Mail, a deal for Gnonto only materialised after the Senegal international dramatically chose to join OGC Nice instead of Leeds, only to fail his medical and remain at Marseille.
At the time, it seemed as if Orta had got himself in a mess during negotiations, although things now look to have worked out tremendously for Leeds.
