Arsenal failed in their first attempt to succeed Arsene Wenger. Unai Emery’s time at the Emirates was underwhelming to say the least, but early signs have shown that Mikel Arteta is the right man for the job.

The Gunners have looked a lot better under Arteta than they did under his compatriot earlier in the season.

Arteta’s biggest task in hand is to bring back the ‘Arsenal DNA’, something that Wenger’s sides were renowned for.

The Gunners have looked much like their old self and Arteta deserves a ton of credit for it. However, his biggest test starts next season, where he will be under pressure to bring Arsenal back into the top-four.

Wenger achieved that feat consistently during his time at the club while also handling a number of other things behind the scenes.

Arteta, a head coach rather than a manager, doesn’t have to worry about whatever is going on off the pitch. However, latest news show that the Spaniard is just like his former boss.

Telegraph have reported today that Arteta is taking matters into his own hands regarding Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s contract extension.

The Gunners skipper has just over a year left on his contract and it looks like Arsenal’s board haven’t done anything significant over the last few months to convince him to stay.

Arteta now taking charge has calmed the nerves of a few Arsenal fans but there is no guarantee that he will be successful.

Wenger convinced a number of players to extend their contracts during his time here. However, his efforts went in vain on more than one occasion with the likes of Thierry Henry, Robin van Persie, Alexis Sanchez and others all moving on.

Some would say that Wenger’s involvement behind the scenes was one of the reasons behind Arsenal’s problems on the pitch.

Arteta following Wenger’s footsteps might affect things on the pitch, but at this moment in time, there is nobody better to convince Aubameyang to extend his stay at the club.
