Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho has commented on Liverpool building their current team under Jurgen Klopp over a few years, as quoted in Football.London.

Mourinho has suggested that he will not bring in new players in the January transfer window and will wait until next summer to add to his squad.

Spurs were quite busy in the summer of 2020, bringing in Gareth Bale on loan from Real Madrid and Matt Doherty from Wolverhampton Wanderers among other players.

Mourinho has pointed out that it took Klopp a while to build the Liverpool team he has at the moment.

The Portuguese told Football.London: “More than the squad it’s time to work, it’s time for evolution, time to affect the team. Not just the way we play but the way we think and sometimes the way we think takes more time than other things.

“I’m very happy with the squad. Of course next summer I will need to give another couple of touches but this is what you always do, improve your squad.

“You look for example to Liverpool, how many years Jurgen has been there, how many transfer windows he went to the market and improved the team.

“I think with us, I don’t want to try and compare us with Liverpool, of course not, but what we need now is time to work and to improve our dynamic at every level.”

Could Tottenham Hotspur reach Liverpool’s level?

Liverpool have some of the best players in the world, such as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Alisson, and Virgil van Dijk.

Tottenham also have some brilliant players, such as Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, but the North London outfit are not at the level of Liverpool yet.

Mourinho is one of the best managers in the world and is a serial winner, and he knows how to get teams to win big trophies and challenge for top honours.

If Spurs are able to finish in the Premier League top four and close the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City this season, then perhaps next campaign they could aim to challenge for the title.
