Neil McCann has praised Rangers defender Borna Barisic on BBC Sport for his performance for Steven Gerrard’s side last night.

The former Rangers winger was impressed by the deliveries of the 27-year-old left-back in Gerrard’s team’s 3-3 draw with Benfica away from home in Portugal in Europa League Group D.

McCann said on the half-hour mark (18:28), as quoted on BBC Sport: “The keeper was absolutely rooted there. What a ball from Barasic, how many times have we said that sentence? If Aribo gets that on target it’s a goal.”

How did Borna Barisic play against Benfica?

Barisic did appear a bit shaky defensively in the opening minutes, but the 27-year-old left-back grew into the game and was one of the better players for Rangers on the pitch.

The Croatia international, who joined Rangers from Osijek in the summer of 2018 for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Record to be worth £2.2 million, provided a great ball for Joe Aribo that should have been turned in for a goal.

According to WhoScored, Barisic took one shot which was not on target, played two key passes, had a pass accuracy of 78.4%, took 89 touches, attempted one dribble, made three tackles and two interceptions, and put in 15 crosses.

Barisic is a brilliant crosser of the ball, and there is no wonder that McCann was impressed by his deliveries last night.
