How many points can Huddersfield Town win from their next five games?

Huddersfield have been top of the Championship ahead of both international breaks so far. As play resumes this weekend, can they do it again?

With the Terriers currently sitting top of the league and victorious at all of their home fixtures so far this season, just how many points can they grab before the next international break in November?

First up for Huddersfield is a televised visit from Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.

Sheffield Wednesday have only won a single match on the road so it looks unlikely that they will threaten Huddersfield’s unbeaten run at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Owls’ star striker Fernando Forestieri has yet to find his form from last season, only notching up two goals in 10 appearances while top scorer Steven Fletcher will be returning from Scotland duty after a demoralising 3-0 loss against Slovakia.

As Town have only one clean sheet at home, it’s possible Wednesday will bag a goal but Huddersfield should be able to scrape through this with the three points.

Huddersfield will then head to the Falmer Stadium and face an in-form Preston North End, who have managed to keep clean sheets in their last three home games.

The Lilywhites are also unbeaten in their last four games across all competitions while Town have mixed form on the road, despite bagging difficult wins against Newcastle and Leeds.

Preston will be full of confidence after scalping Aston Villa before the break and with their impressive home record, this game has goalless draw written all over it.

The Terriers will move on to host a struggling Derby side who also have just one road win this season, against an even worse Cardiff side.

Whilst Derby’s back line are relatively solid, with Jason Shackell leading from the centre, the team lacks decisive strikers and have only netted five goals in 11 games so shouldn’t trouble David Wagner’s men on their own turf.

And if the Terriers make it through that match unscathed then a trip to Craven Cottage should be a breeze, that is unless Fulham manage to turn their disastrous pre-break form around.

The Cottagers have not won a game since August and have conceded eight goals in the last five league matches.

There one and only win at home this season was an impressive victory against Newcastle but it has all been downhill from there and three points should be no problem for Huddersfield.

The final match before teams head into the next international break will be against sixth placed Birmingham who are unbeaten in their last five league games.

It could be a case of unbeaten meets unbeaten if both teams keep their form as while Town have never lost at home, the Blues have never lost on the road, making this potentially the toughest test for Wagner’s men in this set of games.

Top goalscorer Clayton Donaldson should be back from his injury and be fighting fit by then and should keep Town’s defence on their toes.

With only one clean sheet on their books at home, it seems likely Birmingham will get a goal or two but it’s difficult to ignore the fact that Wagner’s side has scored 14 goals in 11 matches from 10 different players so both teams would do well to share the points here.

Of course, David Wagner and his squad will be aiming for all 15 points from a very winnable set of games but realistically a dip in form is likely and should they head to the next break with 11, they will be well on their way to securing a playoff spot.
