So, it’s official. Liverpool have now reached their third Champions League final in five years after recording a 5-2 win over Villarreal.

The Reds booked their ticket to Paris thanks to goals from Fabinho, Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane, keeping their quadruple hopes alive in the process.

Liverpool could now win their seventh major European cup, but how many finals have the Merseysiders been involved in? Let’s take a look…

How many Champions League finals have Liverpool been in?

When Liverpool take to the pitch in Paris on Saturday 28th May, it will be the tenth major European final the Reds have been involved in.

Previously, Liverpool have partaken in a major European final on nine occasions, in 1977, 1978, 1981, 1984, 1985, 2005, 2007, 2018 and 2019.

For what it’s worth, Jürgen Klopp also guided the Reds to the Europa League final in 2015, although that is not considered a major European final.

Liverpool have won six of these finals, with their first victory coming against Borussia Mönchengladbach in 1977.

Only Real Madrid and AC Milan have lifted more major European cups than Liverpool, with 13 and seven titles respectively.

Bayern Munich sit level with Liverpool in six trophies.

Jürgen Klopp makes Liverpool history

After last night’s win, Klopp has made history.

Not only are Liverpool still on track to complete a historic quadruple – which has never been done before – but the German has also achieved a significant personal milestone.

Klopp is now the only manager in history to guide an English side to the final of the League Cup, FA Cup and Champions League all in one season.

Even by his standards, the 54-year-old is overseeing a quite ridiculous campaign at Liverpool, which could see him immortalised in football history if he goes on to lift all four trophies.

Enjoy these times, Liverpool fans, as they don’t come around very often.
