The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has been heavily linked with an exit from the club.
According to a report from Spanish media outlet Marca, Manchester United are ‘seriously’ interested in signing Real Betis ace Giovani Lo Celso, and that could have an impact on Christian Eriksen’s future with Tottenham.
Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo claims that Spurs are keen on signing the £67 million-rated Argentine midfield ace, but will only make a move for him if they manage to offload the Denmark international.
Eriksen, 27, has been heavily linked with an exit from Tottenham this summer, with Real Madrid and Manchester United leading the race for his signature, according to the Express.
AS now claims that Madrid could abandon their pursuit of Eriksen, however, and move for United midfielder Paul Pogba instead.
This could set off a domino effect that would see Manchester United move for Lo Celso.
If they do snare the Argentine, there would be no need for them to sign Eriksen, and with Madrid going after Pogba, the Spaniards would not need the Tottenham star either.
The 27-year-old’s deal with Spurs expires in the summer of 2020, so he would still have to put pen to paper on a new contract with the north London outfit, but there does seem to be a potential scenario where the Dane might stay at the club.
Eriksen currently earns £75,000 per week with Tottenham, according to Spotrac, so he will need a substantial rise on that salary to even consider remaining in north London.
Should Pogba join Madrid and Lo Celso move to United, however, remaining with Spurs might just be the Dane’s best option.
