Magic Johnson saw Tiger Woods’ athleticism before the world did

Magic Johnson shared a story from before Woods joined the PGA Tour. He remembered seeing Tiger’s athletic gifts away from the golf course.

“I remember that first time you turned pro, and before you even went on tour, we had a chance to play with Kevin Costner on the Forum court, and we were playing basketball,” Johnson said on Golf Channel.

“I could see that you were an incredible athlete, and now, here you are, the greatest golfer that’s ever lived. I just want to say happy birthday, man, and continued success.”

When Magic saw Tiger compete, even in a casual basketball game, he recognized natural athletic strength and control. It was an early sign of what was to come.

Woods went on to dominate golf through a mix of skill, discipline, and focus that few athletes could match.

Stephen Curry celebrates Tiger Woods and still wants to compete

Stephen Curry offered his own birthday message, showing admiration and good humor.

“50 is unbelievable,” Curry said. “I hope [there are] many more years ahead. I hope to see you back on the course soon. And when we play, I’m coming for your wallet.”

Curry’s words reflected how Tiger continues to inspire elite athletes across different sports.

Both are known for precision and composure, and have redefined what it means to dominate through focus and repetition.

Curry’s lighthearted challenge to play for money captured the competitive respect that Woods commands from his peers.
