Arsenal’s injury woes went from bad to worse in their game against Brighton on Saturday.

The Gunners lost Granit Xhaka and Pablo Mari in the first 25 minutes of the game against Manchester City which had a huge impact on the result that night.

The game against Brighton saw Bernd Leno in agony after an unnecessary tackle from Neal Maupay. Leno left the Amex on crutches and a number of fans feared an ACL injury to their star goalkeeper.

Goal have claimed that the Arsenal fear that Leno will be out for a year which is a humongous blow considering how incredible he has been for them since the start of the season.

The German has saved Arsenal on a number of occasions and it wouldn’t be unfair to say that he is just as important to the squad as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is.

The Gunners will now have to rely on long-serving Emi Martinez to see out the rest of this season. The Argentine has been with the Gunners for almost a decade now and he does deserve a chance.

Martinez is a very good shot-stopper and is almost often commanding in the box during set-piece situations. However, there is question marks over his distribution which is a key part of Arteta’s game plan.

Will Arsenal buy another goalkeeper?

The summer transfer window will be an interesting one if Leno’s injury is as bad as feared. The Gunners might have to invest in another goalkeeper which won’t be easy considering that they barely have cash to get their other targets.

It really is devastating for Leno to suffer such a horrific injury in a period where he was in the form of his life. Arsenal fans will be hoping that the injury isn’t as bad as expected and that he will be back between the sticks at least by the start of next season, but sadly, it doesn’t look like that will happen.
