Gakpo 007 began to trend yesterday following a ridiculous meme which poked fun at the Liverpool man’s slow start to life in English football.
The image was made in anticipation of the Netherlands international not scoring in Monday evening’s Merseyside derby clash with Everton, as it would have been his seventh game for Liverpool with zero goals and zero assists.
However, Gakpo ensured that the mocking image had an extremely short lifespan on Twitter.
Gakpo 007
Well, whoever spent their precious time photoshopping Gakpo’s head onto James Bond with the title No Chance to Score – in relation to the 25th edition of the iconic movie franchise, No Time to Die – needn’t have bothered.
The 23-year-old silenced his doubters with a superb performance against Everton as Liverpool recorded a 2-0 win over their Merseyside rivals, netting the second just after half time to quash any chance of a Toffees fightback in the second half.
As WhoScored shows, Gakpo registered two key passes along with his goal, while also winning four freekicks to take the pressure off the Reds at crucial stages.
The Liverpool No.18 also showed his industrial side on a night where he truly announced himself to the Anfield faithful, recording two successful tackles before he was substituted by Jürgen Klopp in the 79th minute.
Hopefully, Gakpo can build on his excellent Merseyside derby display as Liverpool prepare for two crucial clashes against Newcastle and Real Madrid in the next seven days.
Nunez can help Gakpo at Liverpool
What is it with football fans on social media nowadays?

Like Darwin Nunez experienced in the first half of the campaign, Gakpo was relentlessly mocked online for not immediately becoming a goalscoring machine at Liverpool.
The pair are just 23 years of age, adapting to a new country and also a notoriously difficult division in the Premier League, so it was unfair to expect both to hit the ground running.
Thankfully, Nunez looks to have shaken off the taunting and is growing with every game at Liverpool, so if anybody can help Gakpo, it is the strong minded Uruguay international.
