Ben White was such a crucial part of Leeds’ promotion campaign and there can’t be many supporters who weren’t desperate to see him return to Elland Road this season.
Sky Sports report Marcelo Bielsa’s side have seen three bids rejected for White and Kicker have stated their interest in Freiburg’s Robin Koch.
While no player could likely replace White in the affections of Leeds fans, we’ve picked out three ways Koch could fill the void next season and help the club ahead of their first season back in the big time.
More cost-effective
As per Sky Sports, £25 million wasn’t enough to convince Brighton to let White leave this summer.
On the other hand, Bulinews claim Freiburg want 10 million euros (£8.9 million) for Koch.
That should give Leeds more funds to improve other areas of the squad, and they have agreed a deal for Valencia striker Rodrigo (BBC).
Left back may well be another area of interest, and they’ve got more chance of improving that position if they ‘save’ £15 million by signing Koch over White.

Statistical comparison
A look at WhoScored shows Koch made more clearances and blocks than White last season, while also giving away less fouls.
White’s passing was hugely impressive last season, but Koch’s pass success rate was under 1 per cent worse for Freiburg.
Leeds have clearly done their homework and unearthed a player who, in terms of the numbers, is fairly similar to White in his output last season.
Of course Koch will need to adjust to English football and Marcelo Bielsa’s demands, but the signs are he can replicate White’s contribution.

International experience
Germany have a lot of defensive quality but Koch broke into their international squad last year.
He has also been named in Joachim Low’s group for the upcoming internationals.
That international recognition is something which hasn’t come White’s way yet.
Koch is 24, and slightly further along in his development, which should set up him to impress in the top flight if he comes.
Nobody can really replace White but Koch has as much chance as anybody that Leeds could realistically sign this summer.
