Vincent Janssen’s departure from Tottenham Hotspur was overdue this summer.

Spurs managed to offload him on a permanent basis, selling the Dutch striker to Mexican club Monterrey.

Janssen’s arrival in Mexico was greeted with fanfare, so how has he been getting on for his new club?

The quick way to sum it up might be to say solid if unspectacular. To be more optimistic, ‘encouraging’ might be the right word.

Janssen has scored two goals in seven games so far for his new club.

Those figures look a bit better when considering he has only started two matches.

His second goal came this week in a 1-1 draw with Cruz Azul. This was the first time this season Janssen completed 90 minutes.

It has been clear he has not been fully fit until now, with 58 minutes his previous high during his opening six games.

Janssen was troubled by a foot injury during a previous loan spell at Fenerbahce. This could have contributed to Monterrey’s cautious use of him early on, as well as his very limited game time over the past three seasons.

Now he has played 90 minutes for the first time, and proved his importance to the side, the former Tottenham man might now be able to kick on and go on a run.
