Sheffield Wednesday were among several clubs said keen on the West Bromwich Albion winger.

Sheffield Wednesday were linked with a move for West Bromwich Albion winger Callum McManaman in the summer. Could the Owls renew their interest in January?

How is he getting on?

Not very well at all. He is yet to feature in a single one of Tony Pulis’ matchday squads, playing his only football for the Under-23s – a similar situation to the one in which Aiden McGeady found himself ahead of his temporary switch to Hillsborough at the start of the year.

Do Wednesday still need him?

There is certainly a case for saying that Wednesday have often suffered due to a lack of pace over the past two campaigns and McManaman would certainly help in that regard. The Owls have a lot of bodies in wide areas but not a great deal of quality beyond Ross Wallace and Adam Reach, neither of whom are particularly speedy. Even when fit, Will Buckley, Modou Sougou and Marco Matias are unlikely to oust either player.

Could they get him next month?

It comes down finances and, most likely, whether West Brom would allow him to leave on loan rather than a permanent transfer. If the Baggies are looking for a sale then Wednesday are likely to lose out, with the Owls close to infringing the Football League’s Financial Fair Play regulations, according to head coach Carlos Carvalhal.

Verdict: A loan deal is very possible.
