Leeds United were linked with a move for Anthony Limbombe in each of the last two summers, but the winger joined Club Brugge instead. Could the Whites renew their interest in January?

How is he getting on?

After a slow start – it took Limbombe two months to begin a game in the Belgian Pro League – the 22-year-old has enjoyed a consistent run in the side of late, failing to make a Brugge lineup on only three out of 12 occasions. He has also featured in the Champions League, albeit more sparingly, and has a goal and three assists to his name in all competitions – six and four fewer than last season’s Nijmegen tallies.

Do Leeds still need him?

The Whites turned to Pablo Hernandez after Limbombe’s transfer to the Jan Breydel Stadium, but having preferred to deploy the Spaniard through the middle so far, it could be argued that further wide options are required. With Hadi Sacko, Stuart Dallas and Kemar Roofe all right-footed, a natural left-sider such as Limbombe (who can use both feet equally well) would give Garry Monk’s side an extra dimension.

Can they get him next month?

The Yorkshire Evening Post reported that cost was a factor in Leeds’ failure to bring Limbombe to Elland Road, with Brugge eventually paying around £2 million. The Belgians have no obvious reason to sell him in January, especially at a lower price than what they paid. Besides, he is set to sit out much of the month with a pelvic injury.

Verdict: No deal
