Rangers were linked with a move for the West Ham United youngster in January under previous boss Mark Warburton. But could new arrival Pedro Caixinha bring his compatriot to Ibrox this summer?
West Ham United’s Domingos Quina warms up
Rangers were linked with a loan move for West Ham United’s Domingos Quina in January (The Sun).
Could the Gers revive their interest this summer?
How is he getting on?
Quina arrived at West Ham with a promising reputation, having been courted by most of the Premier League’s elite clubs while still on Chelsea’s books. However, despite impressing for the Hammers’ Under-23s and earning a place on the bench in 10 consecutive top flight matches, the 17-year-old is still being handled with caution it seems, and his only senior action to date came in last summer’s Europa League qualifying stage.
Do Rangers still need him?
Without Niko Kranjcar since November, Rangers have lacked a bit of flair between the lines of midfield and attack, and even with the Croatian expected back for the start of next season, the Gers could perhaps benefit from bringing in an alternative who’s younger, quicker and a lot more mobile. Not only a number 10, Quina can play deeper if required as well as out wide – two areas likely to be addressed this summer.
Can they get him this summer?
If West Ham are ready to loan him out then Rangers could be among the better destinations for Quina to hone his talents, given he’d be under the wing of a fellow Portuegse in Pedro Caixinha. And let’s not forget – dare I say it – what a season in Scottish football has done for Celtic’s Moussa Dembele.
New Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha
Verdict: 6/10 – He’s not 18 for another six months so Rangers may have to wait a bit longer.
