Glasgow Rangers begrudgingly lost Billy Gilmour to Chelsea last summer.

A year ago reports began to emerge that Glasgow Rangers wonderkid Billy Gilmour was considering leaving Ibrox.

True enough, by June a departure was agreed, with Gilmour signing terms with Chelsea.

It was a cruel blow for Rangers, who had high hopes for Gilmour as a once in a generation talent.

At just 15-years-old he was being talked up for a potential first team bow, and many tried to dissuade him from leaving Rangers to become just another young talent in a Chelsea team full of them.

Months into his new start, Gilmour is refusing to get swallowed up at Chelsea, in fact he is becoming one of their key players in their youth team.

Gilmour is starting regularly for Chelsea’s under-18s and he is closing in on a trophy with the Blues.

In midweek he starred as Chelsea progressed to the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over Tottenham.

Manager Jody Morris told the club website: “Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour were outstanding as the two deeper midfielders, plugging gaps and retrieving the ball for our team. The work they got through was excellent and they did a good job of protecting our back three.”

The 16-year-old has scored four goals in 10 under-18 games this season in the league, showcasing his attacking threat too.

Gilmour is the master of his own destiny and is doing everything right so far. Chelsea are bidding to win a record equalling fifth FA Youth Cup in a row and he can end his campaign on a high, and prove that so far so good with regard to his decision to swap Glasgow for London.
