At one stage during the summer, it looked like there could be the possibility that Tottenham Hotspur would reportedly secure the signature of midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

From Tottenham Hotspur’s perspective, it was a pretty eventful summer transfer window, with the club keen to secure the signature of a playmaker.

A number of names were bandied about, including Sporting Lisbon’s main man in the middle of the park, Bruno Fernandes, with Spurs seemingly holding talks about the player towards the end of the summer window, as reported by Sky Sports.

In the end, Mauricio Pochettino’s side ended up with Giovani Lo Celso, who is still trying to find his feet in North London, with Fernandes seemingly enduring a number of difficult times since being linked with Spurs.

The 25-year-old has had incredible attacking numbers for a while now, and that has continued into this campaign, he has an impressive six goals and four assists from nine games in all competitons [transfermarkt].

But with Sporting currently sitting outside of the top-four in Liga Nos, it hasn’t been rosy in the garden for the club, which included the club suffering a surprise home loss to Famalicao.

The Mirror report that Fernandes launched an X-rated rant on his teammates and the local media, with a leaked audio showing that the midfielder wasn’t too pleased with current matters in Lisbon.

Fernandes missed that surprise defeat to Famalicao because he was serving a one-game ban, but upon his return against Desportivo Aves, he scored the only goal of the game to help Sporting secure a much-needed three points.

Whilst Fernandes’ actions might not sit well with some, for others, it will show the passionate type of character he is, and it seems as though it has, for now, had a positive impact on the team.

Given the interest in Fernandes in the summer, if he continues to produce the goods in Portugal then a club in England, or even elsewhere might just take a punt on him down the line.
