The Hammers only made two additions in the winter transfer window, but how have they got on?
West Ham United’s Robert Snodgrass speaks to West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic
It hasn’t been the best of seasons for West Ham United, who have had to deal with losing their talisman in Dimitri Payet while flirting with relegation in their first campaign at the Olympic Stadium.
In order to try and rectify their season, manager Slavan Bilic used the January transfer window to bring in some new players – two, in fact. Since their subsequent arrivals, here’s how they’ve fared so far since donning claret and blue.
Robert Snodgrass – C
The 29-year-old arrived at the Olympic Stadium for £10.2m, according to The Guardian, having been outstanding for Hull City in the Premier League this season with seven goals and three assists coming in 20 games for a seriously struggling club. In 10 matches for the Hammers however, Snodgrass is yet to consistently show what he’s capable of, and the Scotland international has racked up just one assist. However, Snodgrass has shown in glimpses what he is capable of, and West Ham fans will be hoping that once he settles in, consistency will come and Snodgrass can kick on.
West Ham United’s Jose Fonte in action
Jose Fonte – B
It took £8m to prise the Portugal international away from Southampton, as reports BBC Sport, and from what Hammers fans have seen so far, the majority would say that it’s money well spent. Fonte has had a few shaky moments, with the 33-year-old looking remarkably suspect in the 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth, but that aside, he’s largely been a dependable outlet for the Hammers. Fonte also stepped up to the plate in West Ham’s 1-0 victory over Swansea City, which should eliminate any lingering relegation fears left by the club, and for that performance alone, he’s been a worthwhile signing.
