Michael Owen has been left amazed by the ‘quite staggering’ turnaround Newcastle United have made, as he told Premier League Productions.
The former England striker also spoke about the change in mood at St James’ Park and how that positive feel could make Newcastle ‘almost unstoppable’.
After going months and months without winning a game of football, the Magpies don’t even know what a defeat tastes like now.
They were last beaten by Manchester City in December and that was against a side that is sitting top of the Premier League table.
Nonetheless, given Newcastle’s recent run of form, Owen questioned ‘how has that happened?’, as he praised them for their turnaround.
“They have got loads of momentum, at the moment, “ said Owen. “Their record, over the last seven or eight games, is quite staggering.
On no club being on a longer unbeaten run in the PL: “It’s amazing. Fantastic. All of a sudden, they are a team that you aren’t even talking about in terms of relegation.
“How has that happened? The business they did has helped, but one or two of them have got injured already.
“That place, when it’s on fire, it’s absolutely bouncing. When it’s going wrong, then it can snowball as well. The mood swings of that place are huge. But if it’s going well, then wow, it’s almost unstoppable.”

Whilst the January signings have made a difference, no more than someone like Kieran Trippier.
The work Eddie Howe and his coaching staff have done with the current crop of players is even better.
Joelinton has transformed into one of the best hard-hitting midfielders in the Premier League, whilst Joe Willock and Ryan Fraser have found their goalscoring touch under Howe.
Added with that, Jonjo Shelvey is another transformed player, as all of these players were struggling under Steve Bruce, so a lot of credit has to go to the ex-Bournemouth man.
