Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Callum Wilson has been showering Nick Pope in praise after his impressive performance against Brighton at the weekend.
The England goalkeeper was on top form against the Seagulls, making a string of important saves to earn Newcastle a point in a very tough fixtures.
Wilson was blown away by his goalie, stating that Pope was inspired in that game.
However, Wilson wasn’t surprised to see Pope playing so well. In fact, he says that he’s rated Pope for a long time, saying that the goalkeeper can make unbelievable saves that leave him flabbergasted.

Wilson spoke about Pope.
“To be honest he was inspired and it shows the quality of the player he is and the character that he is. He’s definitely added strength and value to our squad and that’s no disrespect to the goalies here. But he plays for England and I’ve played against him before and he’s an unbelievable shot stopper, some of the saves he makes you think how has he saved that?” Wilson said.
Signing of the summer?
When all is said and done, Nick Pope may well be the best signing Newcastle make this summer.
As Wilson says, this goalkeeper is an unbelievable shot-stopper, he’s more than proven himself at this level and at just £10m, he’s an absolute bargain.
Pope has all of the attributes needed to be one of the very best goalkeepers in the Premier League, and now that he’s playing for a team who doesn’t play such negative football, he may finally start climbing up the clean sheet table.
The former Burnley man has been excellent since joining the Magpies, and long may it continue.
