According to Dean Jones, Rangers are now keen on making Scott Parker their new manager.

The former Tottenham midfielder was sacked by Bournemouth earlier this season in acrimonious circumstances after a fiery interview following the Cherries’ 9-0 loss to Liverpool.

However, while that sacking is undoubtedly a stain on Parker’s CV, he remains a highly-rated manager. In fact, he’s even rated by one of Scottish football’s greatest exports – Alex Ferguson.

The former Manchester United boss namechecked Parker when discussing the young managers that he’s been most impressed by when speaking to LadBible last year.

Ferguson rates Parker

The former Rangers striker spoke highly of the manager who is being eyed by the Ibrox outfit.

“On young managers, Eddie Howe had a great period at Bournemouth, for a young manager,” Ferguson said.

“I think he did very well. Even though he’s relegated it doesn’t mean to say he’s not a good manager, I think he is a good manager.

“I think the boy Scott Parker at Fulham has done a great job. I’ve watched them a lot and they keep playing their football.

“They don’t change and don’t panic. They stick with the beliefs of their manager and I think that’s a great indication of how good he is.”

High praise

Praise doesn’t come much higher than this, does it?

If you’re a young manager coming through, the one man you want to earn a seal of approval from is Sir Alex Ferguson.

There isn’t a man on the planet who has achieved as much as Fergie in club management on these shores, and if he thinks you’re a promising coach, you must have something about you.

Parker joining Rangers would be interesting, and while his football can be incredibly boring and pragmatic at times, he can get results, and the fact that Ferguson rates him highly tells you a lot about his potential.
