How Ferrari F1 star Charles Leclerc performed in a Monaco charity football match

Ferrari Formula 1 star Charles Leclerc recently swapped his racing boots for football boots as he took part in a charity football match in his native Monaco.

It had been a busy week for the Ferrari driver, having launched the SF-26 at Fiorano on Friday, before running the car in its first shakedown session later that day.

But on Saturday, he took off his race suit and traded it for a football kit. Leclerc took part in the annual Fight AIDS Cup at French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco’s Stade Louis II.

Unsurprisingly, Leclerc’s appearance in the match caught the attention of F1 fanatics worldwide, and after watching his skills on the pitch, it is probably a good thing that he spends his time in the cockpit of a Formula 1 car.

Leclerc joined The Barbaguians of Monaco for the match on Saturday, taking on Cirque FC. It is important to note that the Ferrari F1 star was only one of two non-footballers on the pitch.

Legendary names such as Eden Hazard, Andriy Shevchenko and Bafetimbi Gomis were all said to be present in the game. Leclerc played the first 45 minutes of the match, spending much of his time on the right side, playing up and down the line.

The Barbaguians took an early lead, but Cirque FC quickly equalised to make it 1-1. Not long after, Leclerc had a chance to score, but blundered it… quite badly.

A perfect cross from the left came to Leclerc at the back post, but he completely missed the ball as he swung with his right foot and went out for a throw-in.

The Monegasque star laughed it off as he continued the first half before making way at the break. The Barbaguians went on to win the game in a tense penalty shootout.

Former Chelsea and Real Madrid player Hazard was awarded the Player of the Match after the game, in what was his debut appearance. Leclerc will return to the cockpit of his Ferrari this week as pre-season testing gets underway in Barcelona.
