England are bracing themselves for what will be their toughest test of the World Cup so far.
The Three Lions have not exactly impressed so far during the World Cup, with the team only just scraping through the last round vs DR Congo due to Harry Kane’s heroics.
However, fans are hoping they will kick on from here, although they do face Mexico at the Estadio Azteca, an environment that will be hostile to say the least.
England have landed in Mexico ahead of this one, though, with their welcome at their hotel showing exactly what they will be in for while out there.
The Estadio Azteca is a ‘fortress’, but are you really that worried given the level of opposition they’ve faced? 🤔
Perhaps context suggests England stand a chance…
England welcomed by Mexico fans
After FIFA finally agreed that the kick-off time will be at 6pm local time (1am BST), England made their way to the hotel to try and acclimatise to playing at altitude.
Mixing this with the fact they are playing a home nation and the task looks tougher than ever, with Thomas Tuchel’s men needing to prepare to enter a cauldron of noise.
When they got to the hotel, however, they were greeted by Mexicans giving them a tough time, with many of them chanting and booing them, as posted by World Cup HQ on X.
All of them took it in their stride, with the manager even smiling and waving at them, showing that he is not bothered, but this will certainly be a sign of things to come as the pressure ramps up ahead of the game.
England need to kill the atmosphere
FIFA have reverted to the original kick-off time of 1am BST… what are your thoughts on this debacle? 🤯
Have your plans been messed around?
Many will argue that England have started too slowly as of late, although this might be a good thing during this one.
Killing the tempo and atmosphere might be their best route to getting a result, with any mistake likely being punished.
The English fans will certainly be outnumbered for this one, but if they can get past the Mexicans, then they stand a real chance of going the whole way.
