Stevan Jovetic has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the press this morning.

Liverpool were linked with a move for Manchester City forward Stevan Jovetic, in a report from the Daily Mirror, for a fee of around £12 million.

It has been well-documented that the Reds are searching for a new forward as they look to find that cutting edge they had last season that has been lacking this term.

From their 37 Premier League games this season, Liverpool have only found the net on 51 occasions, compared to 99 last season – which highlights the urgent need for more firepower in their squad going forward.

But how does Jovetic compare to Liverpool’s current forward options?

Like the rest of the Liverpool forward options this season, Jovetic hasn’t really had the regular run in the side that he would’ve liked. Part of that is down to the excellent forward options at the disposal of Manuel Pellegrini, but he does have a history of injury problems and one of the factors the Reds will need to consider if they are to firm up their interest in Jovetic is whether they can afford another striker with such a history on their books.

Apart from Daniel Sturridge who has been absent for much of the season through injury, Jovetic seems to outperform the rest of Liverpool’s options in every area apart from shooting accuracy, which can raise questions as to how clinical the Montenegrin is. One thing the Reds could do with right now is a clinical finisher.

But Reds fans just need to cast their minds back to a defeat to Fiorentina in 2009 when Jovetic tore through the Liverpool defence, and at the start of this season when they lost to City at the Etihad Stadium when he bagged a brace. Both of those games showed the capability the 25-year-old has. There are several factors to consider if they approached Jovetic, but he is certainly a forward that can add something to the Liverpool squad.
