Is signing Anthony Martial plausible for Tottenham?

Tottenham are planning to renew their interest in Anthony Martial this summer, The Mirror report.

His goal at the weekend against Watford was his seventh of the season in all competitions, making him United’s third highest scorer so far this campaign.

United will not want to sell Martial on the cheap, while another pressing question for Tottenham is whether the Frenchman can fit into their wage structure.

Harry Kane is the club’s highest earner after signing a new deal two months ago which the Evening Standard report nets him £100,000 per week.

He became the first player to be paid a six-figure weekly sum, and more could follow with Dele Alli and Toby Alderweireld likely to be rewarded with increases in the next few seasons.

The good news for Tottenham’s aspirations of signing Martial, is that he would fit into their structure, currently being on a relatively modest wage at United in comparison to his teammates.

The French international earns £65,000 a week, The Express report, which is dwarfed by teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s £225,000 per week (Telegraph).

Tottenham could afford to offer Martial both an increase, and parity with Tottenham’s other top players, which could make a move tempting.

Convincing United to sell will still remain a tall order, but Spurs have a good chance of persuading Martial if an offer is accepted, especially with their own club set up for sustained success over the coming seasons.
