‘How did we let this happen?’: Kevin Ratcliffe explains what he can’t believe about Everton

Everton are currently sat in 18th place in the Premier League table, after a disappointing start to the campaign.

Kevin Ratcliffe has told BBC Sport that he doesn’t know how Everton have allowed so many deficiencies in their squad.

Everton have started this campaign in disappointing style, and currently sit in 18th place in the Premier League table.

The Toffees went into the new campaign with great optimism, following big investment in the summer transfer window.

However, the positive feeling around Goodison Park has already evaporated somewhat.

And Ratcliffe admits that he is now doubting whether Everton’s squad has the quality to break into the European spots.

“How did we let this happen? I’m looking at the squad and wondering if it’s good enough to be in the top four,” the Toffees great said.

“Maybe not – I’m even thinking whether it’s capable of finishing in the top six to be honest.”

Everton have struggled to replace Romelu Lukaku, who left for Manchester United, with the Merseyside outfit’s attacking play particularly concerning.

Koeman’s side do not seem to have a striker who can trouble defences, with Wayne Rooney the only Everton player to have scored a Premier League goal to date.

Everton are next in action tomorrow, when they take on Bournemouth at Goodison Park.
