Cristiano Ronaldo superfan and internet celebrity IShowSpeed was on hand to taunt Lionel Messi after his penalty miss for Argentina in the World Cup 2026.
Messi, of course, has turned on the style this summer by scoring seven goals heading into his country’s last-16 showdown with Egypt in Atlanta.
What a comeback! What is your INSTANT reaction to Argentina's win? 🤯
What did you think of the decision to disallow Egypt’s goal in the second half? 👀
Still, penalty kicks do remain an issue for arguably the greatest player of all time. In fact, the 39-year-old became the first player in history to miss two penalties in the same World Cup.
Less than 24 hours after his idol Ronaldo exited the tournament, Speed was on hand to troll Messi.
Speed thinks he made Messi miss World Cup penalty
A clip that went viral on social media showed Speed wearing an Egypt top behind the goal where Messi was taking his penalty.
Speed was seen screaming for Messi to look at him, while waving his arms around and even barking.
Quite how much impact it had is up for debate. Frankly, Messi doesn’t need distractions to miss penalties – particularly at this World Cup.
Still, even Speed himself was shocked. He said: “How did that work?!”
While Messi was prolific from the spot in the 2022 World Cup, he has not managed to continue that into this year’s tournament.

In total, he has only converted 50% of the penalties he has taken at the biggest tournament the sport has to offer.
There is clearly little doubting Messi’s legacy at the World Cup but his struggles from the penalty spot are certainly an interesting quirk to an otherwise near-perfect career.
Messi did eventually score in a dramatic comeback that saw the world champions win 3-2.
