Liverpool are reportedly interested in a move for Aston Villa defender Jordan Amavi.
Aston Villa’s Jordan Amavi
Liverpool are reportedly among a host of teams eyeing Aston Villa defender Jordan Amavi this summer, reports the Daily Star.
Liverpool are looking likely to be busy in this summer transfer window as Jurgen Klopp moulds the squad to better suit his needs.
The defence is chief among his thoughts, with that area of the team having struggled in this past season.

Left back was a particular problem, as Spaniard Alberto Moreno failed to prove himself with several disappointing displays.
That makes a move for Amavi a sensible one; the defender was one of the few signings made by Aston Villa last summer to impress, before an injury in November ruled him out for the rest of the season.
But would he represent an improvement on Moreno? We decided to see how they compared before the Frenchman’s untimely injury.
| Team | Won Tackle per Game | Duel Won per Game | Interception Won per Game | Effective Blocked Cross per Game | Poss Won Def 3rd per Game | Ball Recoveries per Game | Accurate Pass per Game | Passing Accuracy | Appearances | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jordan Amavi | Aston Villa | 3 | 9.2 | 3.7 | 0.8 | 4.1 | 6.5 | 29.2 | 79% | 10 |
| Alberto Moreno | Liverpool | 1.91 | 4.36 | 1.18 | 0.27 | 1.73 | 3.09 | 23.27 | 83% | 11 |
And it transpires Amavi was far better, as he came out on top in seven of the eight areas that we looked at.
On a per game basis, he managed to win more tackles, more interceptions, more defensive duels and was also better at blocking crosses.
He was also better at winning the ball back in the defensive third and when it came to ball recoveries too.
He also registered more accurate passes per game, although Moreno enjoyed a better pass success overall in the games covered.
Nonetheless, a comfortable win for Amavi who Liverpool would be right to target if this comparison is anything to go by.
