Aston Villa and Celtic have been linked to the defender.

Celtic and Aston Villa have been heavily linked with Scott McKenna.

According to The Record, Aston Villa remain interested in the Aberdeen centre-back following summer interest, while The Daily Mail reported in November that Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers would revive an interest in the young powerhouse this month.

Stoke City were also rumoured to be interested [The Record] but it looks like they might be pulling out of the race – and it’s a boost for the Hoops and Villa.

According to BBC Sport, City are set to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers ace Danny Batth in a transfer which would lessen the need to sign McKenna, given that they play the same role.

They do not need McKenna and that could potentially benefit Celtic and Aston Villa, both of whom do need a central defender and will do this summer, even if nothing materialises this week.

If it’s just a two-horse race for the £10 million star [The Record] then that gives Brendan Rodgers a fighting chance of taking him to Parkhead.

But being honest, the success of John McGinn at Villa Park this season might well make McKenna want to try his hand at Championship football.
