Chris Sutton has slammed comments from Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta where he claimed to have had the ‘best week or 10 days of my career in this industry’, as he told Sky Sports.

The former Premier League striker labelled Arteta’s comments as ‘utter rubbish’, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

From the outside, it seemed as though Arteta has gone through or was going through the most difficult part of his Arsenal tenure.

Losing the club’s opening three games, conceding nine goals and failing to land a single blow on their opponents – not forgetting that they were sitting bottom of the league heading into their showdown with Norwich on Saturday.

But Arteta clearly felt otherwise, although Sutton did question ‘how could it be possible?’ for the Spaniard to make such a suggestion.

“Arteta, didn’t he say along the lines of that he had his best ten days in management?” said Sutton.

“But being cynical, that’s just utter rubbish, isn’t it? How good he have had the best ten days?

“Oh, come on! The challenge of getting the sack? The best ten days? Better than winning the FA Cup? Oh, come on!

“I just found those comments, I don’t believe them and I don’t think I am the only one. How could it be possible?”

Whilst there is a lot of gloom around North London, once upon a time, it was a little rosy and the club were winning the FA Cup.

That was in Arteta’s first season in charge of Arsenal, but it has rapidly gone downhill since then.

But he can only look forward because it does seem as though if there is one more bad run then he could be in serious trouble.

A certain showdown with Tottenham is edging closer for the Gunners and if Arteta can secure three points in that then he might buy himself some more time.

Lose it, then, good luck, Mikel!
