According to Mundo Deportivo, Atletico Madrid are confident that Thomas Partey will not leave this summer despite interest from Arsenal.

The Spanish news outlet has claimed that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta loves that Ghana international defensive midfielder and wants to sign him this summer.

Italian giants Inter Milan are also reportedly interested in the 27-year-old, described as “unbelievable” by his Atletico teammate Kieran Trippier on The Beautiful Game Podcast on June 29, 2020, as transcribed by Football.London.

Although Atletico are wary of threats from Arsenal and Inter, they are confident of keeping Partey beyond the summer transfer window, according to the report.

Arsenal transfer still possible

Nothing can be said for certain when the summer transfer window is open, and Arsenal still do have a chance of signing Partey.

Atletico reportedly want the buying club to pay the midfielder’s full release clause of €50 million (£45.67 million), and the Gunners could raise that cash by selling some of their fringe players or members of the squad Arteta thinks he can do without.

Partey is a very good defensive midfielder who would make Arsenal better in the middle of the park.
