Can Chelsea be relegated? A number of people have asked on Google after the Blues suffered yet another defeat.

Frank Lampard oversaw a third Premier League loss in a row on Wednesday evening as Chelsea were beaten 2-0 by Brentford at Stamford Bridge, a result that leaves the west Londoners in a very strange position.

So, can Chelsea be relegated? Let’s take a look…

Can Chelsea be relegated?

Well, the short answer is yes.

It would take a dramatic run of results for Chelsea to actually drop into the Championship, although it is certainly a possible scenario as we enter the business end to the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.

Chelsea currently find themselves 11th in the Premier League with 39 points to their name from 32 games.

It would be a Premier League first if the west Londoners did end up being relegated – Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham and Everton have never suffered the drop since the Premier League was created in 1992.

The Blues are just ten points away from the relegation zone as things stand.

Chelsea sit ten points ahead of Leicester, who are languishing in 18th place with 29 points.

So, if the Foxes – or the likes of Nottingham Forest, Leeds and Everton too – were to embark on a winning streak, and Chelsea continue to lose under Lampard, we could see the Blues end up in the bottom three.

Chelsea remaining fixtures

There are no easy games in the Premier League, and Chelsea’s remaining fixtures certainly aren’t simple.

The Blues still need to play Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle, while Lampard must also contend with tricky encounters against Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest in Chelsea’s final six outings.

Those are some tough opponents, to say the least.

If Chelsea cannot find a way to pick up at least one win, and those currently in the relegation zone begin to scrape some victories together, we could see a truly dramatic end to the Premier League season.
