Carlos Alcaraz had the most successful season on the ATP Tour this year.
The Spaniard won eight tournaments, including the French Open and US Open, and finished the year as world number one ahead of Jannik Sinner.
His tally of eight titles is a career-best, surpassing his previous high of six tournaments in 2023.
Alcaraz’s success also made him the top earner on tour in 2024, collecting more prize money than any other player.
Back in 2000, Gustavo Kuerten was ranked number one despite Pete Sampras earning more money through his tournament wins. Marat Safin also had an impressive campaign, while Magnus Norman performed well even if he didn’t have as many wins.

Across his four-year professional career so far, Carlos Alcaraz has earned just under $41m in prize money.
When comparing total career prize money between players from different eras, it is important to note that there is a huge difference in what could be earned between eras. In 2016 Djokovic set a new record for earnings by taking home just under $22m during that season alone. By comparison, Sampras took home just over $8.5m throughout his whole career between 1988-2002 according to ATP Tour.

The Brazilian, a three-time French Open champion, picked up $4,701,610 in prize money that year. It’s a figure that Carlos Alcaraz has since far surpassed.
By 2025, Alcaraz’s total prize money had reached $18,803,427 – around four times what Kuerten earned in 2000.
Alcaraz also topped Martina Hingis’ earnings from the same year by over $15 million. Hingis was the highest earner on the WTA Tour in 2000 with $3,457,049.
