Carlos Alcaraz began his Australian Open campaign on Sunday, defeating Adam Walton in the first round.
There looked to be trouble on the horizon when the Spaniard’s serve was broken midway through the second set. However, he quickly steadied the ship, before completing a 6-3, 7-6, 6-2 victory over his Australian opponent.
Alcaraz will face Yannick Hanfmann in the second round. Hanfmann, 34, famously troubled Novak Djokovic at the 2025 Shanghai Masters.
After defeating Walton on Sunday, Alcaraz discussed his plans before playing his second-round match in Melbourne.

“Tomorrow I’m sure I won’t rest,” Alcaraz told reporters in Australia after defeating Walton.
“I have planned to train in the morning, but I want to go play a little golf. They are two important days to recover for the next game.”
Alcaraz, 23, will hope to recover well ahead of his second match in Melbourne. After all, he is chasing the ‘Career Grand Slam.’
Only the Australian Open trophy is absent from the Spaniard’s Grand Slam collection; he could claim the title for the first time on February 1.
As things stand, Jannik Sinner appears to be the only player who could prevent Alcaraz from winning the title.
Sinner, the two-time defending Australian Open champion, could prevent Alcaraz from completing the feat, before securing his own Career Grand Slam at the French Open.
Carlos Alcaraz’s love for golf
It is no secret that Carlos Alcaraz loves golf.
The Spanish superstar has spoken extensively about his passion for the sport, which he first played in 2020.

Ahead of the golfing clash, Alcaraz spoke about his attachment to the sport.
“I started to play at the beginning of 2020. I just love playing,” Alcaraz told the ATP Tour.
“I used to go to hit some balls in the driving range when I was really, really young. I liked it, but since 2020, I just started to play more, to go on the course, to play some holes. I just fell in love with golf.
“I started to play more and more. I saw myself improving, so it engaged me even more to the golf, and it has me. I just feel really peaceful when I go out and play some golf on the golf course.
“Tomorrow Sergio is here, so we are going to play some golf. I will try to learn from them. My handicap right now is 14. It’s getting down, but it takes time. I mean, for me it’s a privilege to have time to play some golf, to be honest.”
