Andy Gray is just as puzzled as a lot of Arsenal fans with their goalkeeping decisions over the past 12 months.
Arsenal have just dropped £24 million on signing Aaron Ramsdale from Sheffield United, with Sky Sports claiming it could rise to £30 million.
Nobody even knows whether Mikel Arteta is going to use the 23-year-old straight away or continue with Bernd Leno in between the sticks.
The Gunners boss is a big fan of Leno, evident by the fact that Emiliano Martinez was sold to Aston Villa for £20 million last summer.
And unfortunately Arsenal, Martinez was arguably the Premier League’s finest goalkeeper in the 2020-21 campaign, in contrast to Leno who picked up red cards and conceded sloppy goals for a lot of the season.
Here’s what Richard Keys and Andy Gray made of the situation, speaking on BeIN Sport.
Keys told BeIN Sport: “It’s funny you talk about Arsenal selling.”
Gray responded: “I don’t get that. How can you sell the Argentine international goalkeeper for £20 million and then goes and pays £30 million for a kid that’s not the finished article.”
Keys added: “Nowhere near [the finished article].”
Is Ramsdale starting against Chelsea?
Ramsdale was registered as an Arsenal player in time to face Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium.
Having said that, it seems unlikely that he’s going to play.
The young goalkeeper only had his first training session with the club on Friday and hadn’t even been playing for Sheffield United recently.
Leno is undeniably the sharper and fitter of both goalkeepers right now and Arteta is probably going to stick with the former Bayer Leverkusen man.
