One of the top performers for Leeds United this season has been Gaetano Berardi. The Swiss defender would have considered his chances of regular football this season slim, with Charlie Taylor present and Luke Ayling arriving in the summer.
But he has deputised at left-back for the injured Taylor with aplomb and his no-nonsense hard-working style of play has clearly impressed Leeds boss Garry Monk.
But what does the 28-year-old talisman have to do to earn himself a recall to the Swiss national team?
Berardi only has one cap for Switzerland, featuring whilst a Brescia player against Liechtenstein in August 2011.
He has not featured since then and will be wondering what he needs to do to earn a second cap.

Switzerland, unfortunately for Berardi, are blessed at right-back. In their most recent squad they had Juventus star and national captain Stephan Lichtsteiner as well as Michael Lang of FC Basel and Silvan Widmer of Udinese. Toulouse left-back Francois Moubandje made up the full-backs, with Wolfsburg star Ricardo Rodriguez out injured.
It’s a tough ask for Berardi and in truth, the only way it seems he might earn a Swiss recall will be if Leeds can earn promotion to the Premier League.
If that happens, he will no doubt have his eyes firmly set on the World Cup in 2018.
