Clinton Morrison has urged Antonio Conte to give Yves Bissouma minutes after the Tottenham boss shared that the midfielder is struggling in training.

Tottenham’s summer signing has just started one Premier League game this season and Conte explained that Bissouma is trying to get to grips with what he wants from him ‘tactically’.

Well, since then, Bissouma has continued to warm the bench, as he earned 20 minutes during the 6-2 drubbing of Leicester City over the weekend.

Rodrigo Bentancur scored his first Premier League goal during that game, whilst Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg also got on the assists sheet, alongside the January capture.

Either way, it’s going to be a tough ask for Bissouma to now earn regular starts given the form of those ahead of him in the midfield pecking order.

Nonetheless, former Crystal Palace striker Morrison didn’t understand how Bissouma could not know the tactical side of the game, as he made it clear that, for the Mali star to improve, he needs to be thrown into the deep end, as he told Sky Sports News.

“He doesn’t understand because he isn’t playing, at the moment,” said Morrison. “I know they work on stuff in training.

“But you have to give him minutes. I think he has had one full start and that was the Forest game. It probably didn’t go to plan like Conte wanted him to do.

“He’s been playing Bentancur and Hojbjerg. But I think Bissouma is an outstanding player.

“How can he not know the style of play or the system that suits Tottenham?! But there are a lot of fans calling for him to be called in and be amongst that midfield. I do think he’s a good player. But give him minutes and let him showcase his ability.”

BISSOUMA WILL COME GOOD

Tottenham had a pretty strong summer transfer window and one of the names that stood out was the purchase of Bissouma from Brighton.

The hard-hitting midfielder was an outstanding performer for a team punching above its weight under Graham Potter.

Given time, he will be able to translate that form in a Spurs shirt, and just like the forward line, there will be serious competition for those midfield places.
