We are barely into the summer months and the World Cup hasn’t even started but Tottenham are already looking to reshape their squad.

With Robert de Zerbi securing Premier League survival, the Italian is now tasked with rebuilding the squad and ensuring Spurs never find themselves in that position in the near future.

Spurs have already landed the experienced Andy Robertson and will also be signing Marco Senesi from Bournemouth.

However, they are not done in terms of adding to their defence and according to Brighton CEO Paul Barber, Tottenham are actively pursuing their defender, Jan Paul van Hecke.

Brighton’s stance as Tottenham make two bids for Jan Paul van Hecke

Van Hecke was one of the outstanding defenders of the Premier League season last year and it’s little wonder De Zerbi is looking at his former club for new recruits.

However, speaking directly on the issue with Van Hecke, Paul Barber has claimed that Spurs have had two bids rejected already and ultimately, it will be down to Brighton to say yes or no.

“There’s always going to be a lot of interest in our best players and certainly in the case of Jan Paul,” Barber revealed on TalkSPORT.

“Again, we’ve been very clear that interest has been ongoing for a while. It’s coming from multiple sources.

“Yes, we have rejected a bid from Tottenham over the last week or so, in fact, two bids, so from that point of view, it has to be right for us as well as the player.”

Brighton have a rich history of making big money on their players since becoming a Premier League club.

The Seagulls paid less than £2m to sign Van Hecke from NAC Breda but are believed to be looking for around £80m to sell him now.

Just like they did with Moises Caicedo, Alexis MacAllister and Ben White, they look set to make a huge profit as they continue to be trend setters in English football for recruitment and player development.
