West Ham United’s biggest transfer regret in recent years could be not signing Benjamin Mendy when they had the chance.

West Ham attempted to sign Mendy last summer (Daily Mail), but they decided against making a move for the full-back, who was then at Marseille.

In the end Mendy went on to make a switch to Monaco, and his progress has been remarkable.

Mendy has starred in Monaco’s team, as they reached the Champions League semi-final – before going out to Juventus.

The 22-year-old is now regarded as one of the best defensive prospects in Europe, and has even earned a full international cap for France.

Mendy’s value has soared this season, and he has now attracted the attentions of the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United (Manchester Evening Times).

And West Ham must now look back on their decision to sign Arthur Masuaku last summer instead of Mendy with some regret, as they could netted themselves a huge profit.
