How are Norwich’s summer exiles getting on?

Let’s catch up with the players that left Norwich City this summer.

Nathan Redmond

Redmond was highly sought after this summer and opted for a move to Claude Puel’s Southampton. He got off to a flying start with the Saints; netting the equaliser against Watford on the opening day of the season.

Redmond has started in every league game, so far this term, but is yet to find his best form. With a lack of assists and goals, Southampton fans have questioned his effect on games, especially when Puel ultises him in a central role.

Verdict: This season will be a tough learning curve for Redmond. Southampton fans expect a lot from the youngster but it will take time for him to adapt to his new position and deal with the expectation.

Ricky van Wolfswinkel

After struggling for goals at Carrow Road, Wolfswinkel scored 21 minutes into his Vitesse Arnhem career. His smart finish helped Vitesse to a 4-1 win over Willem II, as he made an impactful return to Dutch football. Since then he has found the net against ADO Den Haag, FC Utrecht and Go Ahead Eagles – taking his tally to four goals in eight league games.

Verdict: It is good to see Wolfswinkel scoring again after a torrid few years. He could well be one of Dutch football’s top scorers come the end of the season.

Gary O’Neil

O’Neil was made captain of Lee Johnson’s Bristol City team and has had an eventful time since his arriving at Ashton Gate. The midfielder played a prominent role in City’s six opening games; grabbing two assists on his debut against Wigan Athletic. However, he saw red just seconds after City missed a penalty away at Sheffield Wednesday. Following his dismissal, O’Neil sat out the next two games.

Verdict: Bringing in O’Neil was a great piece of business for Lee Johnson and Bristol City. He is already showing his influence in side that could push for the play-offs.

Vadis Odjidja

Injuries meant Odjidja never got to make his mark on English football. The Belgian midfielder is now playing in Poland for Legia Warsaw and helped them reach the Champions League Group Stages with a win over Dundalk FC. Odjidja has featured in Legia’s first two group games which included a 6-0 drubbing by Borussia Dortmund and a 2-0 defeat to Sporting CP. Odjidja has also played in six league games but four of those ended in defeat.

Verdict: Odjidja needed games and he is finally stringing appearances together with Legia. It is a good move for the midfielder and getting to play Champions League football is a bonus.
