Anthony Gordon made his first appearance at Goodison Park on Thursday since leaving Everton in a £40m deal back in January.

The England Under-21 international left the Toffees for Newcastle with Everton embroiled in a relegation scrap, a situation which has not improved since the winger departed.

Things went from bad to worse for Everton on Thursday as they suffered a 4-1 defeat to the Magpies, with footage showing how Gordon reacted to the result after the 90 minutes had ended.

How Anthony Gordon reacted after hammering Everton

Well, Gordon is not exactly the most popular man amongst Everton supporters after skipping training to force an exit from Goodison Park in January – as detailed by Sky Sports.

His image amongst Everton fans won’t have improved after he was seen emphatically pumping his fists in the tunnel at Goodison Park after Newcastle picked up all three points.

Of course, Gordon is a Newcastle player now, and he has every right to celebrate a win for the Magpies however he wants.

On the other hand, some Everton fans will argue that he should maybe rein it in a bit given the fact the side who developed him into a £40m player are now on the verge of relegation after Thursday’s defeat.

Sean Dyche’s side now sit 19th in the Premier League on 28 points – two away from Nottingham Forest in 17th.

It is a seriously worrying situation for the Toffees, and if they fail to beat Leicester on Monday night – who sit just one point above them in 18th – then it looks as if relegation will be unavoidable.

Everton take on Brighton and Manchester City after that clash against the Foxes, with Wolves and Bournemouth also still to come before the end of the campaign.

That is not an easy run of fixtures, so Monday’s game is incredibly significant for Dyche and the Toffees.
