And that could create a selection dilemma for Owls boss Jos Luhukay, with two of those unlikely to be back in training until two days before the Hillsborough encounter – at the very earliest.

Josh Onomah – England Under-21s
Impressive against West Bromwich Albion and Bristol City last week – in which he assisted goals for Adam Reach and Lucas Joao – Onomah’s international schedule is by far the kindest, given that both of England’s fixtures are being held on UK soil – one barely out of Sheffield. His late return is, however, inconvenient, although he’ll fancy his chances of a start against Boro.

Ashley Baker – Wales 21s
Baker has missed Sheffield Wednesday’s last two matches after picking up a knock against Leeds, but has already joined his international teammates ahead of an October double-header which includes a 3,000-mile round trip to Romania. Like Onomah, the right-back is late returner, leaving Liam Palmer in pole position to start next Friday.

Atdhe Nuhiu – Kosovo
Nuhiu will venture the furthest of any of Wednesday’s internationals (nearly twice as far as Baker), with Kosovo’s fixtures effectively spanning the whole of Europe. He is, however, the earliest scheduled returner, with Kosovo’s final fixture taking place on Sunday evening – although the striker is likely to need those extra few days if he is to dislodge Lucas Joao, after the latter’s two-goal haul in Bristol.
