Paul Merson said on Sky Sports News (1:48pm, December 12, 2020) that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg would not be in the Manchester City team.
The former Arsenal star, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, believes that City manager Pep Guardiola would not pay £18 million or £25 million for Hojbjerg.
The 25-year-old Denmark international midfielder joined Spurs from Premier League rivals Southampton in the summer of 2020 for a transfer fee reported by SkySports to be worth £15 million.
Merson said about Hojbjerg on Sky Sports News (1:48pm, December 12, 2020): “It’s horses for courses, isn’t it? You pay that money for me. Man City wouldn’t buy him for £18 million, they wouldn’t buy him for £25 million. It’s horses for courses. That’s where Mourinho is great.”
Good signing for Tottenham Hotspur
City have Fernandinho as their main defensive midfielder, while Rodri is also a very good option for manager Guardiola.
Hojbjerg has established himself as a big player for Spurs and is one of the first names on the teamsheet.
The Denmark international is a force to be reckoned with in the middle of the park, breaks up the opposition team’s plays, and protects the back-four.
Hojbjerg may not be a flashy player, but he is exactly what Spurs needed to get better in midfield. Tottenham’s Premier League title challenge this season owes a lot to the former Southampton star.
