Clinton Morrison has lauded Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg after showcasing his talent for the ‘horrible stuff’ in Sunday’s North London derby.
Spurs snatched the bragging rights over local rivals Arsenal by beating Mikel Arteta’s side 2-0.
First-half goals from Son Heung-min and Harry Kane did the damage for Tottenham on an evening where Hojbjerg continued to look like the club’s signing of the summer window.
The Denmark international produced a brilliant no-nonsense display and barely gave any opposition player an opportunity in which to hurt Jose Mourinho’s side, while also protecting his back four superbly.
Arsenal really didn’t create much through the middle and that right there is testament to the former Southampton star’s performance.
Morrison told BBC Radio 5 Live: “That is what Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg does – the horrible stuff in midfield. He is so good – he’s been outstanding. In games like this you see how important he is because Tottenham are not dominating possession so they’re having to defend.”
Tottenham, who spent £15 million on Hojbjerg, are the real deal in terms of challenging for the Premier League title.
Mourinho’s side are top of the table, ahead of Liverpool on goal difference, and whatever the Lilywhites achieve this season, their new midfield general is going to play a huge role in it.
