Ben Foster has been speaking about Everton on The Fozcast, and he’s made a bold claim about the Goodison Park faithful.

What’s the story?

Well, the Premier League veteran believes Everton’s fans can have a negative effect on their own players if you can frustrate their team.

Speaking on his podcast, the £2.5 million Watford man said: “If you can get on top of Everton early doors, the Everton fans are horrible to their players. They get right on top of them. For sure they get in the players’ heads.”

I don’t know what Everton supporters will think about Foster’s claims or being labelled “horrible”? They surely prefer making life difficult for the opposition players than unsettling their own.

But it’s genuinely intriguing to hear such insight from Foster, a man who has faced Everton 22 times throughout his lengthy career.

If the Toffees are going to emerge from their current slump, fans will have to make their team feel like they have a 12th man.

Standing up for Everton after Ben Foster comments

We sympathise with the Goodison Park faithful.

Everton are a traditional club and the fanbase aren’t stupid – they know their football and they know when something isn’t right.

With Farhad Moshiri at the helm, there have been far too many mistakes in terms of woeful signings and managerial appointments.

In recent years, the Toffees have been terrible, and it may seem at times as though some players aren’t trying hard enough.

When that’s the case, fans can feel entitled to get on players’ backs and give them a metaphorical kick up the backside.

Hopefully better days are on the horizon for Everton – the fans deserve that much at least.
