Jim Beglin has criticised Arsenal central defender Gabriel on PremierLeague.com for the goal that the Gunners conceded against Fulham at the Emirates Stadium in North London in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
The former Liverpool and Leeds United player was not impressed by how Gabriel defended for Arsenal that allowed Aleksandar Mitrovic to score in the 56th minute.
Former Newcastle United striker Mitrovic put the Cottagers in the lead after winning possession on the edge of the Arsenal box.
Gabriel, a £23.14 million signing from Lille in the summer of 2020 (BBC Sport), could have easily avoided that goal by clearing the ball earlier.
The 24-year-old Brazilian, though, did make up for his mistake when he scored in the 85th minute fo Arsenal.
It proved to be the winner, as Mikel Arteta’s side came from a goal down to emerge victorious by a 2-1 scoreline.

Arsenal centre-back Gabriel criticised for goal v Fulham
Beglin said about Gabriel’s mistake on PremierLeague.com: “Gabriel just makes a horrendous mistake.
When he gets it there’s no danger, he dallies on it to bring Mitrovic into play and then he just gives him the opportunity to pinch it – it’s shocking defending.
“When Mitrovic gets the chance he tucks it away very well and just when it looked like Arsenal were plotting to take the lead, it’s all backfired. That’s a huge moment.”
Learning from the mistake
In our opinion, Arsenal centre-back Gabriel will learn from his mistake against Fulham.
He simply has to.
Yes, the defender redeemed himself late on, but the match could have easily ended in a draw.
Arsenal are doing well at the moment, but they have to stop making mistakes like the one Gabriel did against Fulham.
