Rangers are reportedly eyeing a January move for New York City `FC star James Sands.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the Scottish giants are looking to sign the 21-year-old midfielder on loan in the New Year. Sands was a key player for NYCFC as the Pigeons won their first MLS Cup title earlier in the month.

Sands is one of many young American players who could make the move to Europe in January, and Rangers are now seemingly eager on signing the prospect, who can play both centre-back and in central midfield.

With seven caps for the USA national team already, Sands is on the path to becoming another quality player for America, and Rangers could make a move for the youngster in the coming weeks.

As per the report, Rangers could make a loan with an option to buy offer for the NYCFC youngster, with Sands likely to make the move to Europe in 2022 after establishing himself as one of MLS’ best players under the age of 23.

However, City fans on social media are not sold on Sands moving to the Glasgow giants, with supporters claiming that the 21-year-old can do better than a move to Scotland.

Indeed, whilst playing for Rangers would be a big step up for Sands, the overall quality of the Scottish Premiership could be argued is much worse than that of MLS, which has improved massively over the past two years.

NYCFC fans believe Sands can do better than Rangers

It will be interesting to see where the youngster ends up at the end of January, but even with a club like Rangers now in the mix, NYCFC fans are not sure that a move to Scotland will be beneficial for the versatile midfielder.
