Leeds United manager’s ambition comes into question.

Argentine entrepreneur Horacio Pagani has launched an attack on Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa.

Pagani is a multi-millionaire who founded the Italian car brand which goes by his name.

He is a football fan, but admits he has not forgiven Bielsa for choosing not to take Juan Roma Riquelme to the 2002 World Cup with Argentina. The team crashed out at the group stages.

Bielsa is now managing Leeds, and Pagani believes this shows the manager lacks ambition.

Speaking to Argentine website Infobae, Pagani said: “Bielsa is smart to never accept, or perhaps was not offered, a team with chances to win a European championship.

“Now he is leading in the second division of England, here the games go by and he is praised for the games of the second division of England! Why do not we start praising the games of B here? He never chooses a team that has the potential to be a champion.”

Bielsa’s Leeds have just suffered a serious setback in their ambitions to win promotion to the Premier League, but can still go up through the playoffs.

It’s easy for an outsider to Pagani to look at Bielsa managing in the second tier and criticise, but that misses the enomity of the challenge he has taken on.

Pep Guardiola has been criticised for choosing frontrunner Bayern Munich and Manchester City since leaving Barcelona.

In taking on the Leeds job, Bielsa took an almost impossible task, and is coming remarkable close to making it a success.
